Welcome to Diocesan Development Services -North Karamoja
Diocesan Development Services- North Karamoja (DDS-NK) is a development arm of the Church of Uganda, North Karamoja Diocese mandated to carry out social services and implement development interventions using an integrated development approach to provide its services to its target groups, which include community groups of men, women, youth, and vulnerable people such as people living with HIV/AIDS, people living with disabilities, orphans and vulnerable children.
Our Programmes
Below is the list of programmes and thematic areas we focus on towards community transformation at DDS-NK
Sustainable Livelihood
Sustainable livelihood main strategic objective is to improve household economic resilience for households and youths in Karamoja by increasing agricultural production and productivity; improving postharvest handling including profitable markets for the agricultural produce; increasing access to and use of financial services to finance agricultural; engaging Household heads and youths in micro-enterprise development and gainful employment; and engaging local leaders/ duty bearers to be accountable, develop plans of action and deliver sustainable livelihood services.
Integreated Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH)
Water, Sanitation & Hygiene (WASH) objective is to increase access to and use of Safe water, sanitation and hygiene for households and persons in Karamoja. This will be achieved through increasing access to safe water for domestic use and agricultural production; improving access to basic sanitation and adoption of good hygiene practices; and engaging local leaders, duty bearers and Water User Committee (WUC) to be accountable, to develop plans of action and addressing WASH services needs in underserved communities.
Climate Change & Natural Resource Management
Climate Change & Natural Resource Management is to ensure sustainable use of the natural resources in Karamoja. In order to attain this, by promoting increased adoption and sustainable use of natural resources to manage climate change; increased adoption of climate smart agriculture, agroecology and alternative environmentally smart livelihood sources; building capacity of climate change and disaster risk management structures to detect and manage environmental challenges and engaging local leaders/ duty bearers to be accountable, develop plans of action and support sustainable use and management of natural resources.
Cross Cutting Issues
DDS-NK focuses its attention on addressing the following crosscutting themes; Gender and social Inclusion, HIV/AIDS, Peacebuilding, Community Mobilisation, Mindset Change, and Evangelism.
